“Modern British Sacred Music”

Christopher SmartChristopher Smart 1722 - 1771Following our concert featuring tape and percussion and African and South American rhythms, we return to the calmer but no less intriguing sound-scape of British music.

This concert features Britten's varied and tuneful setting of Smart's 'Rejoice in the Lamb' (featuring 'my cat Jeoffrey, a cat, surpassing in beauty, from whom I take occasion to bless Almighty God') with MacMillan's fascinating setting of the Mass and works which the ever-popular Rutter combined to make into his Psalmfest. This last item will be accompanied by a small group of instrumentalists.
